South West Mallorca
The south west of Mallorca encompasses a stretch of coastline and hinterland that runs roughly from the mountain village of Andratx in the north to Santa Ponsa in the south — a distance of around 25 kilometres, but a world away from the busier parts of the island. This is the Mallorca that visitors return to year after year.
Andratx & Port d’Andratx
Port d’Andratx is the jewel of the south west — a working fishing harbour that has, over the decades, attracted some of the most discerning visitors in Europe. The port is ringed with waterfront restaurants, the marina is filled with serious sailing yachts, and the evening paseo along the waterfront is one of the great pleasures of Mallorca. Inland, the village of Andratx sits beneath the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, with a weekly market and a handful of excellent restaurants.
Camp de Mar
A small, sheltered bay with one of the calmest and clearest stretches of water on the island. Camp de Mar is quieter than its neighbours, popular with families and those who want to spend their days in the water without fighting for space. There is an iconic restaurant built on a jetty reaching out over the bay.
Santa Ponsa & Calvià
Santa Ponsa offers a long, gently curving beach and a range of excellent restaurants and beach clubs. The municipality of Calvià, which governs much of this area, is home to some of the finest residential estates on the island — large plots, serious architecture, and a seriousness of purpose that distinguishes this area from the more touristic east coast.
Getting Here
Palma de Mallorca Airport is one of the best-connected airports in Europe, with direct flights from virtually every major city. The south west is between 30 and 45 minutes from the airport by car — close enough to arrive without exhaustion, far enough to feel genuinely away. Car hire is recommended: the roads are good, parking is generally easy, and the freedom to explore at your own pace is part of what makes this part of the island special.
